Kitties Needing Temporary Homes for the Holidays

Planned PEThood Kitties Needing Temporary (or permanent!!)

Homes for the Holidays

Planned PEThood will be closed from 12/20/2012 - 1/2/2013.  We would love to give our foster kitties a chance to spend a week or so with a family while we are away.
Can you open your home to one of our sweet furkids?

Faith is a very special kitty that we have become very attached to, but who needs a special person to love her.  She came to us with a very bad wound and we have nursed her back to health.  She's a sweet, purry, former feral who would really love to spend the holidays in a quiet home.

Katniss is the last of our Hunger Games kittens.  She's about 9 months old and very spunky.  Purrs all the time and wants lots of attention!!

Ana and Cerci are two beautiful long-haired torti's who are sweet & purry but timid until they get to know you.

Molly is a beautiful 7 mos kitten!  She's beautiful and very purry and sweet!  She's the most playful kitty we have!
HAS BEEN FOSTERED -- Thanks Sarah!!

Lily is also one of our pretty former mama kitties.  She definitely prefers a dog-free home, but loves to sit in your lap and purr.

Jerome is Mr. Snuggles.  He will quietly follow you until you sit down.  At which point he will settle in next to you and rest his chin on your wrist while you surf the internet.  He has very loud purrs, is about 2 yrs old and has a very nice eartip that makes him look tough.

Sweet, sweet Kate is a VERY floofy girl.  A couple of years old and very friendly.  Not sure how she feels about dogs, but we wouldn't mind finding out!

Beautiful Flora is about 5 yrs old and the best hugger you will find.  She is also our laundry supervisor!!

                    ADOPTED -- Woo Hoo!!!

Spanky - 9 months old, snuggly, chatty boy.  He would love a break from the kitten room.  Spanky is the big daddy to all new kittens, taking them all under his wing.

Karen is a beautiful 2 yr old former mama kitty.  She is our lobby greeter extraordinaire.  Runs to greet everyone as they enter the clinic!

HAS BEEN FOSTERED -- Thanks Katherine!!!

Scarlet -- This pic doesn't do beautiful Scarlet justice.  She is the floofiest, pretty girl.  Somewhat shy, but very sweet when given personal attention.  She is about 2 yrs old and thinks dogs smell bad.  ;-)

Frito is willing to drive himself to your house for the holidays!  He's about 9 months old and is seriously the sweetest snuggliest kitten ever.  He adores belly rubs.  Frito is still deciding how he feels about dogs.  A break from our kitten room would be heaven for him!

                      ADOPTED -- Woo Hoo!!!

Beth -- Beth is about 2 yrs old and is one of our sweetest lobby kitties.  She doesn't love dogs, but stays out of their way and would probably be fine with a calm one.  She loves all people, big and small.

Petunia -- She's about 2 yrs old and LOVES DOGS.  She's a typical Calico with some 'tude, and is very friendly and outgoing.  She's not afraid of anything.

HAS BEEN FOSTERED -- Thanks Taylor!!

Also needing foster, but waiting on pictures are Sonny & Cher who are 4 month old kittens.  Sonny is a squishy & purry, but timid short-haired black male and his sister Cher is a beautiful and outgoing short-haired tuxedo.

And, lastly, is our trouble-maker Lacey.  Lacey is an 8 yr old long-haired black female kitty.  She despises other cats and doesn't mind telling them about it any chance she gets.  She shares her displeasure with us by leaving "deposits" on Elizabeth's desk.  Lacey does fine when she's the only spoiled-rotten pet, but lost her last home when the family adopted another cat.  Anybody pet-less for the holidays want to give her a break from her cage???

Search and Rescue – Cats can do it too!

Duluth, Georgia, December 1, 2011— Planned PEThood’s foster cat, Bagheera, rescued a stray cat on Wednesday evening after being missing all day himself.

When employees arrived at Planned PEThood Tuesday morning, there was a duct taped cardboard box waiting for them at the front door.  This is not the first of what they affectionately call “door dumps” so the box was scooped up and brought inside from the cold, rainy weather.  Unfortunately, once the tape was removed, no cat was discovered inside.  The only evidence was a tuft of hair the cat must have lost in her escape efforts.

“We put some food outside immediately just to ascertain if the cat had stayed in the area or not,” says Lynette Purves, Co-Director of Planned PEThood.  Within a couple of hours, the food had been eaten, but there were no other signs of a cat, so a humane trap was set.  By the end of the day, employees had to go home without finding the poor kitty.  “We were worried about her being outside in the cold, but there was nothing more we could do until morning,” says Elizabeth Burgner, Co-Director of Planned PEThood.

On Wednesday, one of the clinic’s foster cats, Bagheera, disappeared.  It’s unknown exactly when he slipped out, but this is not the first time he’s escaped.  He has been nick-named “The Escape Artist.”  He was out all day while employees periodically searched, called and set traps for both Bagheera and the escaped “door dump” cat.  Everyone was very concerned when he hadn’t returned by the end of the day.  There was a meeting at the clinic Wednesday night that ran until after 8 p.m. and when attendees went outside to bring the traps in, Bagheera came running inside!!

And who did Bagheera have with him?  The “door dump” kitty!!  Is Bagheera the first ever search and rescue cat?

We've named this gorgeous girl Roxanne and she's looking for a foster or forever home.  She has been spayed, combo tested negative for FIV and Feline Leukemia, vaccinated and microchipped!

Thanks for Giving

We'd like to introduce you to Lorenzo. A group effort among several different groups over the past week resulted in all 23 of Lorenzo's cats getting spayed and neutered!

Fernando and his wife rescued four cats last year who were abandoned by a neighbor in his apartment complex. They brought them into their home and, while Lorenzo admits that he wasn't thrilled with the situation at first, he loves them all now. Unfortunately, they didn't know about the importance of spay/neuter and before they knew it the four cats had become 23!

That's when he approached Georgia SPCA for help. Georgia SPCA referred him to Planned PEThood and when he came for his first appointment with 8 female cats, we discovered that he had LOTS more at home, including 7 kittens. So, we got on the phone and started asking everyone we knew for money and help. Spay Georgia agreed to pay to spay and neuter the rest of Lorenzo's cats and Georgia SPCA agreed to take the kittens and find them good homes. In addition, all of your kind donations made it possible for us to also give each adult cat a flea treatment because they were suffering from flea allergies.

So, we are thankful for our friends this week. Without them we wouldn't have been able to help Lorenzo and his cats!

Happy Thanksgiving!

P.S. Here are some extra pics of all the kitties we fixed yesterday.
